Arrival in Paro — Transfer to Thimphu
Your Bhutan journey begins with landing at Paro International Airport. Your local guide will meet you and escort you to Thimphu, the capital. En route, stop at Chuzom — the confluence of the Paro Chhu and Wang Chhu rivers. Afternoon visit to the National Memorial Chorten and the Folk Heritage Museum. Welcome dinner.
Thimphu Exploration
Explore Thimphu at a comfortable pace. Visit Buddha Dordenma — one of the largest Buddha statues in the world — with panoramic views over the valley. Continue to Tashichho Dzong, the Motithang Takin Preserve, and the vibrant weekend market (Saturdays and Sundays). Evening walk along the Thimphu riverside.
Thimphu to Punakha via Dochula Pass
Drive from Thimphu to Punakha over the Dochula Pass (3,100m), adorned with 108 chortens and prayer flags. On clear days, the Himalayan range is visible on the horizon. Continue down to the warm and fertile Punakha Valley. Visit Chimi Lhakhang, the Temple of Fertility, across the paddy fields.
